چکیده

this study was carried out on olive trees cv. amygdalifolia, to investigate the effect of spraying potassium nitrate, kno3, and zinc sulfate, znso4, on the fruit weight, dimension and volume. the plants were sprayed with 0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5% kno3 and 0, 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75% znso4 and their combinations in august about halfway through the fruit growth period. the highest fruit weight was observed using 0.5% znso4 + 0.5% kno3. fruit length and diameter were affected significantly using different znso4 concentrations especially in combination with kno3. the fruit, pulp and pulp/pit volume increased by increasing znso4 concentrations. the highest fruit, pulp and pulp/pit volume were also obtained from trees treated with 0.5% znso4 + 0.5% kno3. our results emphasize the importance of an appropriate fertilization management, particularly for table olives, in which fruit size, and pulp/pit ratio are important characteristics.

Vegetative growth and fruit set of olive (Olea europaea L. cv. ‘Zard’) in response to some soil and plant factors

This experiment was conducted to explore the reasons of difference between ‘Zard’ olive orchard with the poor vegetative growth rate and fruit set and orchard with suitable vegetative growth rate and fruit set in relation to some soil and plant factors during two seasons. Note that assumptions were based on the overall canopy greenness of the olive trees, so experimental orchards in which the p...

Phenolic compounds and antimicrobial activity of olive (Olea europaea L. Cv. Cobrançosa) leaves.

We report the determination of phenolic compounds in olive leaves by reversed-phase HPLC/DAD, and the evaluation of their in vitro activity against several microorganisms that may be causal agents of human intestinal and respiratory tract infections, namely gram positive (Bacillus cereus, B. subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus), gram negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli an...

In vitro regeneration in olive (Olea europaea L.) cv, 'Frontio' from nodal segments.

An efficient and reproducible protocol for plantlet regeneration from nodal segments of Olive cv 'Frontio' has been developed. Media and explants browning due to exudation of phenolics from the explants were controlled by fortification of the medium with 100 mg/L ascorbic acid. Best establishment of olive explants was observed on half-strength MS salts fortified with 2.0 mg/L 6-benzylaminopurin...

Fruit Morphological Changes during Pit Hardening in Autochthonous Istrian Olive (Olea europaea L.) Cultivars

Endocarp lignifi cation is important fruit growth phenophase since aft er its completion fruit starts with oil accumulation. Th e information about duration of endocarp lignifi cation is important for timing of management practices, irrigation and pest control in oil cultivars, and fruit thinning in table cultivars to obtain uniform fruit weight and size. In this study, fruit length, width and ...

Effect of ripening on texture, microstructure and cell wall polysaccharide composition of olive fruit (Olea europaea).

Olive fruits at the green, cherry and black stages were used to investigate the structural and microstructural changes in tissues during ripening. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) tissue fracture of green olives resulted in cell wall breakage of epicarp and mesocarp cells. Tissue fracture resulted in fewer broken cells in cherry than in green olives and even less in black olive tissues. Cell ...
